Marketing Support for the Legal & Probate Sector

More than 10 years’ experience in the probate sector

Marketing within the legal and probate sectors requires more than simply understanding the services you offer. It means understanding the audience, the terminology, the sensitivities involved and how to communicate complex subjects clearly.

At DWD Communications, we’ve spent many years working closely with organisations across the legal and probate professions, providing ongoing marketing support as well as individual campaigns, events and projects.

From probate genealogy and estate administration to private client services and the wider legal profession, we understand the sector and can quickly become part of your team without needing everything explained from scratch.

Our experience in probate began through a relationship with one of the UK’s leading probate research companies.

We worked with the business for ten years, becoming closely involved in its marketing and supporting the team across social media, website content, design and wider communications.

It was very much a working partnership rather than a conventional client and agency relationship. We got to know the business and its people extremely well, understood what was happening across the company and could often pick things up without the need for a lengthy brief.

Over the years, the work naturally evolved as the business did. Alongside ongoing marketing activity, we were heavily involved in an Online Reputation Management (ORM) project, with SEO and content playing an important role in strengthening the company’s presence within search results.

“It’s a pleasure working alongside Donna. She’s an incredible balance of proactive and reactive, and consistently knocks every brief out the park. She’s incredibly data-driven and always uses previous learnings to inform future work, ensuring every campaign is even bigger, better and stronger than the last. I can’t recommend her enough!”

Working with probate research companies

Probate research is a specialist area, and having spent ten years marketing within it, we understand many of the challenges involved in communicating what you do.

One of those challenges is the variety of audiences.

At one end, you may be speaking to solicitors, local authorities, executors and other professional contacts who already understand the probate process. At the other, you may be communicating directly with beneficiaries who have never heard of a probate research company before receiving your letter or phone call.

The language, level of detail and type of reassurance required can be very different.

Having experience of both B2B and B2C marketing within the sector means we can help develop communications appropriate for those different audiences while keeping the overall brand consistent.

We can support probate research companies with ongoing marketing, social media, website content, SEO, design, campaigns and online reputation management, either taking responsibility for particular areas or working alongside your existing marketing resource.

Working with law firms and probate teams

For law firms, our role can be slightly different.

You may have an established central marketing team but need additional support specifically around probate. Or you may be a smaller practice where partners and fee earners are trying to manage marketing alongside client work.

We can work directly with your probate team to help turn their expertise into useful marketing content.

That might involve developing the probate section of your website, interviewing fee earners to produce articles, creating LinkedIn content, supporting a particular campaign or simply making sure there is a consistent flow of relevant content going out from the team.

We understand that lawyers’ time is valuable, so the aim is always to make the process as straightforward as possible. A relatively short conversation with someone who knows their subject can often provide enough material for several pieces

More than just an outsider with ideas

We think the best marketing relationships develop when you stop feeling like two separate businesses.

We like knowing what our clients are working on. We like being included in conversations early enough to suggest ideas rather than simply being asked to produce something at the end. And we like getting to know the people within the business so they feel comfortable picking up the phone or sending us a quick message when something comes up.

That was very much the relationship we built with our probate research client over ten years, and it’s the way we continue to work today.

You still have the flexibility of using an external marketing agency, but with a team that understands your business, knows the sector and can work comfortably alongside your people.

If you’re a probate research company or a law firm with a specialist probate team and would like to talk about your marketing, please get in touch.

We’re always happy to have an initial conversation about what you’re currently doing, where you might need some additional support and whether DWD Communications would be a good fit for your team.
